Tutorial Island was different from anything you had ever seen. The tunes of the Newbie Melody have ever since been a part of my memory and listening back on it reminds me and many other old school Runescape players from our earlier times when life wasn't quite as difficult as it is today.
Visually visually, the Runescape journey is represented visually by the sweet notes, different songs, and parts of the MIDI music by Ian Taylor. It takes 3 minutes and 43 seconds. It's like you've been transported in time to the beginning of 2000 when things were simpler. Although it will make you weep, it is normal to feel emotion. You were an Tutorial Island "noob" that there was nothing you could have done about.
Taking those first baby steps before moving to the main island where everything happened, basically laid the foundations for what would basically take over your life for a couple of years. It took around half an hour to learn how a bronze bars were melted and how to make bread dough was not easy.
Burning your first Runescape meal on a fire you made yourself wasn't such a disappointment when you realized that everybody else did the identical thing. It was awe-inspiring to discover that you can shoot a bow & archery, and kill a massive polygon-created Rat in just 5 minutes. Tutorial Island is a small but stunning island was the place which started a journey that would span decades. Whatever age or far back you go, it will always be in our hearts.
Lumbridge was then born. Lumbridge was the final chapter of it all. It was the start of an unforgettable experience. It was the place that everyone knew and could return to in case they got you were lost. Lumbridge was intimidating for the new members, to be honest.
A new interface that had similar menus was introduced during tutorial. But, a chat box with hundreds of people was available. It was difficult to understand the Runescape jargon so you would often spend half an hour looking over the other players' say. Lumbridge was your first destination. You wouldn't hear anyone because there would be numerous other players engaged in private conversations. After a while, you'd hear someone saying "This is Lumbridge, Swans Sydney" then you'd ask them about Lumbridge and eventually be shown around.
Remember those beginning steps where you were taken to the cow farm as well as the chicken coup, and later Varrock? Yep, you sure do. Every time someone would offer to show you around and give a brief tour of Runescape's Free To Play section. They would then become your first ever online acquaintance and was there for you through the majority of your Runescape journey.
