It was during the NFL season New York Giants running back Nike athletics player Saquon Barkley received his own replica of Air Trainer 3. What was it like to have him pay homage you through the sneaker?
I gave him the shoes. It was like telling him"Grasshopper, it's your right now to carry the torch. You must keep it up. I'm confident that Saquon will do an excellent job at this. Saquon is a good kid. He reminds me a much of me. He's a runner with a lot of power and his head in the right direction. This is the thing that amazes me the most. It's not his stats. I love the way he carries himself.
Everybody will have Bo Jackson. However, when you look back on the NFL running backs who've been after you, which of them have the most resemblance to you?
I can only imagine two names -Two - Saquon and Derrick Henry -- on the strength, strength, and knowing how to navigate across the field and protect. They may not be able to match the speed I had. But they've made this work. They are very successful at what they do. And that's why they're looked at as top of the top running backs currently.
If you think back on your career, which action you've made that you feel could've come out of a video game?
One thing that's not talked about, besides Denver Broncos fans is when we visited Denver and I went through their defense like an ice-cold knife through butter. Not bragging, but it's all about the size that I was at the time and how I was unable running behind the pads. It's a fact that you'll never see me upright when I didn't have someone 5 or 6 yards behind me trying to chase me. When I was in the middle of traffic, in the hot of the action, it only took me an instant to recognize that running in the wrong direction is not good for your health. I'm not sure of the name of the man but he was a linebacker for the Cardinals during their time in Phoenix. He blew me up. He punched me in the 6or 7-yard line. He knocked me off the 2. He helped me get up and said, 'Hey Bo Hey, you need to help me pay my bill. You need to run harder. I'm staring at him as if he's done lost your damn mind. I'm not going to run into this hole again. After that play I threw it outside and used my speed.
Editor's note: In the fourth quarter of a match between the Raiders and Broncos during the week of Dec. 2 1990, Jackson scored a 62-yard rushing touchdown, breaking five tackles in the process of getting to the end zone. He finished the afternoon with 13 carries , an average of 117 yards, and two touchdowns.
The game in Denver after I cleared all the players, I jumped over an opponent's linebacker and then another. And if I'm not mistaken I also hit their All-Pro linebacker [Karl] Mecklenburg who sprinted past the defensive back towards his goal line. This is one of the plays that stands out to me , because I was required to the sidelines to make someone miss, jump into the air, then get low, and go for 60 yards for one touchdown.
